“The village clinic has been renovated, with more medical equipment added. The rooftop PV system also generates stable annual revenue for the village collective. With this income, the elderly dining program can finally be sustained!” Zhang Guifang, the “post-95s” village head of Sanjia Village in Hebi, Henan Province, looked at the newly upgraded clinic with pride and optimism.
With a single short video gaining over 100 million views and nearly 460,000 followers, she became widely known online as “Village Head Xiaofang.” On May 28, Sungrow New Energy and the China Social Welfare Foundation’s “Sungrow Positive Energy · Thousand Villages Initiative” visited Sanjia Village, showcasing through Village Head Xiaofang’s livestream the village’s transformation from a “hollow village” into an internet-famous rural community, and highlighting the green momentum brought by new energy power plants to rural revitalization.
After graduating from university, Zhang Guifang returned to her hometown and was elected village head. She led villagers in improving roads, installing water pipelines, and restoring waterways. Through creative wall paintings, she transformed the previously little-known Sanjia Village into an internet-famous rural destination, attracting coverage from more than 20 authoritative media outlets, including Xinhua News Agency and People’s Daily. She later appeared on CCTV multiple times, visited the Great Hall of the People, and was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China.
After gaining public attention, Zhang Guifang remained committed to her original goal: helping Sanjia Village, which lacked industries, resources, and talent, build a truly sustainable development path. She led villagers in developing large-scale cash crop cultivation, promoting sales through livestreaming, and building a collective village brand. Meanwhile, she actively explored a new energy-driven development model, with residential PV systems installed across the village. The rooftops of Sanjia Village have become a new source of income for local residents.
Rural revitalization requires both immediate support and long-term empowerment. In recent years, Sungrow New Energy has actively carried out the “Sungrow Positive Energy” public welfare initiative, supporting sustainable rural development in areas including village empowerment, agricultural benefits, youth education, and elderly care. Based on local needs, Sungrow New Energy provided targeted support to Sanjia Village through an integrated approach combining Energy Empowerment Power Plants and Health Service Stations.
Sungrow New Energy donated essential medical equipment, including ECG monitors and infusion chairs, and carried out a comprehensive renovation of the village clinic, significantly improving local healthcare conditions. In addition, a residential PV system was installed on the clinic’s rooftop. “The revenue generated from the PV system will belong to the village collective. We plan to use it for the elderly meal program, turning every kilowatt-hour of clean power into a warm meal for seniors,” said Village Head Xiaofang.
As a partner in rural revitalization, Zhang Guifang uses youth and dedication to create a better future for her village, while Sungrow New Energy leverages technology to promote a greener path forward. This journey of “chasing the light,” which began in Sanjia Village, is now bringing brighter and more sustainable lives to countless households.
